2/11/2015. I recently took the kids to a woodcarving studio. So much of the furniture, doorways, and building details in our neighborhood were locally made, so we wanted to see how it was done. We were greeted by this handsome Brahmin who invited us into his studio. Below he teaches Francesca how to make an elephant.
Even Amanda decided to join in. The guy who's guiding her file is totally laughing at her ineffectual grip (because she's trying not to abrade her manicure).
Here's Max saying, "everything I know I learned in a pewter factory." (See journal entry from Kuala Lumpur.)
The guys also made these landscapes
and epic scenes.
But somebody else made these cool boxes. Looks like sculpture but has a compartment for secreting away aphrodisiacs.
At one point I looked up and couldn't find Francesca. When I found her she was in a quiet part of the studio drawing pictures of Saraswati.

This is why people take their kids on worldly adventures with no thoughts about "you're taking them out of school?!??!" When your kid gets to say: "Everything I know I learned in a pewter factory", you as a parent know unequivocally you've done the best possible thing for your child -- and their education. Jayne, that is priceless! I love that kid. He's learning. He's absorbing things. He's making connections. HE'S SEEING THE WORLD AT HIS YOUNG AGE! What a great experience for him and for Francesca. Oh, and that photo of Keka in the hand chair -- is that THE cutest picture ever. I cannot believe those guys could carve the intricate, delicate, complicated epic scenery out of a piece of wood. That is fascinating. I love it. Thank you for sharing such great pictures of this wood carving adventure. And I hope you enjoy your tree house nest when Jon come for a visit 😉 It will be fun for you guys to show him around "your" village. -- Love, Jane
